Amsterdam Student Choir (the Netherlands)

Amsterdam Student Choir (SKA) is a choir of 80 enthusiastic students and former students, conducted by Servaas Schreuders. We sing classical repertoire, with works from different composers like Mendelssohn, Brahms, Witacre, Bach and Poulenc. In 2013 SKA celebrated its 25th anniversary with two ambitious projects: Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Mozart’s Requiem.

To us, singing together is a great way to connect with each other, and with the people you sing for. In the past we’ve already experienced this feeling in the context of commemorating war and peace.

In 2012, we performed the world premiere of ‘Requiem for Auschwitz’, a requiem for all the victims of World War II, composed by the self-educated Dutch Sinto musician Roger ‘Moreno’ Rathgeb. Last year we had the chance to see the former concentration camp for ourselves, when we paid Auschwitz a visit during our tour with the Polish student Choir Dominanta in Kraków.

In this project we will go even further back in time. We look forward to being part of this great event and experience the feeling of singing, with 1000 voices, for peace!
